Crowns & Bridges—Restoring Function and Confidence
Custom restorations to protect damaged teeth and replace missing teeth with natural-looking results.
When a tooth is significantly damaged or missing, crowns and bridges offer durable, natural-looking solutions that restore both function and appearance. At TrueSmiles Dental, we custom-design each restoration to fit precisely, feel comfortable, and blend seamlessly with your natural teeth.
Whether you need to protect a weakened tooth, cover a dental implant, or replace one or more missing teeth, our team provides high-quality crown and bridge restorations for patients throughout Tonawanda, Buffalo, Amherst, and Western New York.
Dental Crowns
A dental crown (sometimes called a "cap") is a custom-made restoration that covers the entire visible portion of a tooth. Crowns are used when a filling alone isn't sufficient to restore a tooth's strength and function.
When You Might Need a Crown
- After root canal treatment, to protect the treated tooth
- When decay or damage is too extensive for a filling
- To restore a cracked or fractured tooth
- To protect a weak tooth from breaking
- To cover a dental implant
- For cosmetic improvement of a misshapen or severely discolored tooth
Crown Materials
Crowns can be made from various materials, including all-ceramic/porcelain (for the most natural appearance), porcelain-fused-to-metal, and all-metal. Dr. Masud will recommend the best option based on the tooth's location, your bite, and your aesthetic preferences.
The Crown Process
Getting a crown typically requires two visits. During the first visit, we prepare the tooth, take detailed impressions, and place a temporary crown. At your second visit, we remove the temporary crown and cement your permanent, custom-made restoration.
Dental Bridges
A dental bridge replaces one or more missing teeth by anchoring to the teeth on either side of the gap. The anchoring teeth (abutments) are fitted with crowns, and the replacement tooth (pontic) fills the space between them.
Benefits of Bridges
- Restore your ability to chew and speak properly
- Prevent remaining teeth from shifting out of position
- Maintain the natural shape of your face
- Distribute bite forces properly
Caring for Your Crown or Bridge
Crowns and bridges can last many years with proper care. Brush and floss regularly (using a floss threader or special brush for bridges), avoid biting on hard objects, and visit us for regular checkups so we can monitor your restorations and catch any issues early.
