We understand that visiting a new dentist can feel a little uncertain, especially if it's been a while since your last appointment. At TrueSmiles Dental, your first visit is designed to be thorough, comfortable, and pressure-free. Here's what you can expect:

Before You Arrive

Plan to arrive about 10-15 minutes early to complete any remaining paperwork. Please bring:

  • Photo ID
  • Insurance card (if applicable)
  • List of current medications
  • Any previous dental X-rays or records (if available)

Your Comprehensive Exam

Your first appointment typically includes a comprehensive examination, which allows Dr. Masud to get a complete picture of your oral health. This may include:

1. Health History Review

We'll review your medical and dental history, including any medications you take, past dental experiences, and any concerns you have. Everything you share helps us provide better, safer care.

2. Digital X-Rays (as needed)

Digital X-rays help us see what's happening beneath the surface—between teeth, under old fillings, and in the bone that supports your teeth. Our digital technology uses significantly less radiation than traditional film X-rays.

3. Clinical Examination

Dr. Masud will thoroughly examine your teeth, gums, bite, jaw joints, and oral tissues. We look for signs of decay, gum disease, oral cancer, TMJ issues, and other conditions.

4. Discussion and Planning

After the examination, we'll sit down with you to discuss our findings. You'll see your X-rays on screen and hear Dr. Masud's assessment in plain language. If treatment is needed, we'll explain your options, answer questions, and help you make informed decisions—without pressure.

5. Professional Cleaning (if scheduled)

Depending on your gum health and scheduling, we may include a professional cleaning at your first visit. If we identify gum disease or other issues that require treatment before a standard cleaning, we'll explain next steps.

How Long Will It Take?

A comprehensive first visit typically takes 60-90 minutes. We don't rush—you'll have plenty of time to ask questions and discuss your care without feeling hurried.

What If I Haven't Been to a Dentist in a While?

No judgment. We see patients every day who have delayed dental care for various reasons—finances, anxiety, busy schedules, past bad experiences. What matters is that you're here now, and we're here to help. Your first visit is about understanding where you are and creating a path forward, at a pace that works for you.

Nervous About Your Visit?

That's completely normal, and we're prepared to help. Let us know about your concerns when you schedule—or mention them when you arrive. We can explain each step before we do it, take breaks when needed, and adjust our approach to help you feel more comfortable.

Appointment Policies

We respect your time and ask that you respect ours. Please note our appointment policies:

  • Cancellations: Please provide at least 24 hours notice if you need to cancel or reschedule.
  • Late Arrivals: If you're running late, please call us. We'll do our best to accommodate you, but significant delays may require rescheduling.

After Your First Visit

You'll leave with a clear understanding of your oral health and, if treatment is needed, a proposed plan. There's no obligation to proceed with anything you're not ready for. We're here to guide you, answer questions, and support your dental health on your terms.
